Last month, Bayshore BJJ head Professor Joe Dockery took a night away from teaching to travel to North Jersey to learn the Collar Sleeve Guard at Gael Force Jiu Jitsu at a seminar being taught by Professor Jonathan Thomas. The seminar was well organized with a mix of overarching concepts and objectives, mixed with countless details to refine the position. As always, when our coaching staff travels to expand our own knowledge, we’ve brought it back for our students in Hazlet, NJ.

Why Collar Sleeve Guard?
The collar sleeve guard is a powerful open guard position offering excellent control, sweeping, and submission opportunities. Its structure allows you to manage distance, off-balance your opponent, and create angles for attacks or transitions to other guards we’ve worked in class, including spider guard, De La Riva guard, x-guard, double sleeve guard, lasso guard, etc. Whether you’re setting up submissions or looking to retain guard against aggressive passing, collar sleeve offers both security and versatility, and on top of that, its very easy to set up!
